Rachel and Pierluigi's Wedding
Previous | Home | NextThe interior of the higher, "modern" Basilica,
as decorated for a wedding. The mosaics were original to the ancient Basilica
and date to around 530 A.D. In the Seventeenth Century, the floor was
raised 21 feet and the side chapels were built. The interior of the ancient
Lower Basilica can be seen behind a plexiglass panel comprising the rear
wall of the modern one.
For the nuptial Mass, Pierluigi and I prepared an Italian
and English booklet, on the last page of which we included a history of
the Basilica and an explanation of the mosaics. You can see the cover
